Sound familiar?
There are plenty of courses, software names and job titles, and they all sound alike. Tutorials only take you so far, and a certificate on its own does not open studio doors. What helps is a clear path, guided practice on real projects and people who can answer your questions.

If you are looking for a VFX course in Pune, start with the VFX & Compositing card. The other cards are neighbouring paths in animation, games, design and AI that many VFX students add later.
A good visual effects course in Pune should follow the way a real VFX shot is made. At Arena Animation FC Road you work through each stage on projects, so you understand how raw footage becomes a finished shot.
Combine live action footage and CG elements into one believable image, using tools such as Nuke and After Effects.
Cut subjects out of footage and remove unwanted objects frame by frame.
Separate actors from a green or blue background and place them in new scenes.
Track the camera movement in a shot so CG elements sit correctly in the frame.
Create effects such as smoke, fire, water and destruction, with tools like Houdini.
Paint and build environments that extend a set or replace a location.
Pull your best work into a showreel that studios can review.
Animation is about bringing characters to life. VFX is about building and blending effects, environments and CG elements into footage so they look real. If you enjoy problem solving, detail and making the impossible look believable, VFX is a good match. If you love performance and storytelling through characters, animation is the closer fit. The two share a lot, and many students learn both. A counsellor can help you decide in a short conversation.
Possible career paths
Typical roles people move into after training in VFX & Compositing. Studios name them differently, so treat this as a guide to the kind of work you can aim for.
Placed and hired by studios
Arena Animation has long stood behind its students’ careers. Every student who completes a programme gets help moving into a creative career, from portfolio building to interview preparation.
Trusted by the best
Our graduates have gone on to work with VFX houses, animation studios, game studios and media companies across India.
These are the students whose work our mentors are proudest of. Each card shows the student, the role they trained for and the project they built.
Each placement began as a showreel built during the course. Here are some of our most recent.
What our VFX & Compositing students say
You will learn how a visual effects shot is made, from rotoscopy and keying to matchmoving, compositing, FX simulation and digital matte painting. Training is on industry software such as Nuke, Houdini and After Effects, with mentor feedback on each project. You finish with a showreel that shows what you can do. If you are searching for a visual effects course in Pune, this is the programme that covers it.
Check four things. Look at real student work, not only ads. Ask who reviews your shots and how often. Find out what placement support really includes, for example showreel workshops and mock interviews. Visit the centre and talk to current students. You can do all four at Arena Animation FC Road in a free counselling session.
The longest VFX course is the Advanced Program in Animation and VFX, at 19 months. The Advanced Program in VFX Compositing and Editing runs 8 months, and Master in Nuke and Silhouette runs 6 months. Our counsellors can help you choose the duration that fits your goals and schedule.
Our Advanced Program in Animation and VFX runs up to 19 months. We also offer short term workshops of 3 to 6 months. Six months is enough to learn the basics and see whether you enjoy the work. Reaching a studio ready level usually takes longer, because you need time to build a strong showreel.
Yes. Many students join after 12th, and graduates and working professionals join too. Eligibility differs by programme, so share your qualification with a counsellor and they will tell you which one you can join. We also offer a B.Voc Degree in Animation & VFX for students who want a degree alongside their training.
No. You can start as a beginner. Drawing helps with matte painting, and some comfort with logic helps when you work in tools like Houdini, but neither is a requirement to begin. Your mentors teach what you need as you go, and you build the technical side step by step.
After Effects is a friendly place to begin compositing. Nuke is widely used for compositing in film and series pipelines, and Houdini is used for effects and simulation. You can learn Nuke in Master in Nuke and Silhouette, and Nuke and Houdini together in Advanced Program in Animation and VFX, so you do not have to bet on one. Your counsellor can suggest the order that suits the role you want.
Animation brings characters and objects to life through movement and performance. VFX builds and blends effects, environments and CG elements into footage so they look real. The two work together in films and series, and many students learn both. If you are unsure, our counsellors will look at your interests and suggest a starting point.
Not on day one. You can begin on the systems at our centre and see how the work feels before you spend a lot on hardware. VFX software needs a capable system, so when you are ready to practise at home, your mentors can suggest what suits the tools you are using.
Typical roles include VFX artist, compositor, roto artist, paint and prep artist, matchmove artist, FX and simulation artist, look development artist, digital matte painter and motion graphics artist. Studios use different job titles, so look at what the work involves and match it to the skills you built.
No institute can honestly promise a job, because studios hire on the quality of your showreel and your interview. What we do is run showreel and portfolio workshops, mock interviews and introductions to studios through our placement cell. Your effort and the quality of your work decide the result.
AI is changing the tools studios use, especially in cleanup and repetitive tasks, but studios still need artists who can judge quality, solve problems and finish shots. Learning the fundamentals of compositing and effects keeps you useful, and learning AI tools on top of them helps you work faster. If you want both, we offer a Gen AI programme alongside our VFX courses.
